Is there any reason?

I just discovered four player chess. So addictive !!

Is there a reason why when everybody is 1550+ (I'm almost there already), everyone LOSES rating on average every game? Is that the intention of chess.com to deflate ratings?

I'm saying this because in these games, the winner is seen as "having won three times against the average opponent", but the three players who finish after him actually lose a combined total of FOUR losses against the "average opponent". 

Is it by mistake or by design? And I wonder what's the purpose...

I still wonder...

The answer is somewhere out there. I just know it !!
