Well, yes. Compared to the other top level players, Carlsen is not particularly interested in openings. However, compared to even "ordinary" GMs, Carlsen's preparation is stellar. Usually when people mention Carlsen's relative neglect of openings, it is in comparison to Viswanathan Anand or Vladimir Kramnik, but they literally may have some of the best opening preparation of all time! They, in so many ways, are the standard.
