chat I use luck all the time
Is there such thing as "luck" in chess?

nope. really. if you beat someone who blundered it is because you were more skillful in the game than he was. luck has nothing to do with it
What if the person you are playing is distracted because she just received a cancer diagnosis. Does that mean she is less skillful than you?
many players play less skillfully than they are capable for any number of reasons. but again, that is not luck. its skill--or lack thereof.
I'm pretty sure you don't actually go through life using such rigid categories and expecting reality to fit your narrow definitions. Then again, maybe you do...
Oh the irony of someone with no skill at chess giving lectures on what skill means.
im 2150 uscf. what are you?
How about I come to your house and we play OTB for 10 grnad?

ive seen your pic, dude. youre a scrawny little guy.
I'm issuing the threat that if you show up on my property I will beat you and I will be armed, yes. And I am within my legal rights to do that, and to let you know that ahead of time.
again..you might beat me in your dreams
Sorry, you got the wrong profile. My facebook profile is the same rat picture I use online, I do not have a picture of myself. Keep trying
nope. i got you. not facebbok. try it youself if you dont believe me

Well, you know, there are a small number of people who go their lives always or almost-always being the smartest person in the room. That's just a statistical reality.
Agreed. But for everyone that actually IS the smartest person in the room, many others are of the false notion that they are the one. YOU fit into this second category.
The two of them - 'ib' and the Guy - obsess over 'intelligence levels'
Especially the Guy. He's got that problem very very badly.
I don't have any other profile I use online. My linkin has no pic on it... I don't take pictures.
Anyway, go away.

got your phone and address too!

If I'm truly honest I don't think anyone is exactly covering themselves in glory right now. But you get this rather a lot in Chess discourse, I've seen. Everyone needs to be seen as the smartest person in the room, and put them all in the same room and the result is often not pretty.
Maybe just relax, this discussion, which, just to remind, is about the concept of luck in chess, not ... say a murder someone did, is not particularly high stakes. It's kind of an idle semantic amusement, at best. Interesting maybe, but not really... important. It's a weird thing to hurl insults over for hours, and a very weird thing to go rooting around in people's linkedin profiles over.
"Everyone needs to be seen as the smartest person in the room"
No. Not everyone.
Very few in fact.
With one particular person having that problem very severely and for ten years now. He'll always try and claim its somebody else though. Its called projection.
You must --surely-- understand that I meant 'everyone' in the colloquial sense of 'lots of people'. I disagree with your assessment of 'very few' people. I've been a part of many communities and am fairly new to Chess, but in the few months I've been around I've never seen so many people in such a hurry to try and prove how smart they are (or how smart someone else isn't), and what's carried on in this thread for the past couple of hours is a perfect illustration of that. It's blown so out of proportion. It can't just be that someone has different ideas, no it has to be that they're fundamentally stupid or inferior, and for what? An interesting but ultimately trivial conversation about luck.
I hope that spending a longer time here will prove me wrong and I'm sure there are loads of people in Chess who aren't like this at all, but right now this is just an embarrassing fight we're seeing, nobody should be proud of this.
You seem to admit that you're exaggerating K.
And probably you're aware you're exaggerating on both points.
Both with 'everyone' and 'smartest'.
Again - very few have the 'problem' as you describe it.
And those few tend to have a lot of trouble with disagreement.
You're probably not one of those.
You and I disagree on 'exaggeration'?
We might continue to disagree but so what?
Try - nobody cares!
I've got to add to this post but got to scroll back to do so.
