Let me get this straight... you're asking if someone stays in a game they're apparently playing through to the end is a shady tactic?
Is this a shady tactic?

... I was having some connection troubles and almost disconnected a couple of times during the game.
Is hanging around on a clearly lost game when your opponent has a mountain of time, and mate is not far away for the sole purpose of trying to win via the chance your opponent disconects a shady tactic?
Winning, is winning. I don't think it is 'shady' to take advantage of your opponent's computer, connection, eyesight, lack of attention or any other issue that leads to a win, no matter how well the opponent might be doing at any particular point in the game. It's not over, until it's over.
If your opponent was aware of your disconnection issues (of course, your opponent surely noticed the couple of near disconnects), why wouldn't your opponent see how the game went, in a reasonable expectation that you would forfeit due to a bad connection?

Today I have been playinf fairly well in most of my games. In one of my games for example I was up a substantial amount of material. I'm talking a rook a bishop and a queen up. My opponent had no real way to attack me, the only piece he had left was a rook. None of his pawns were any where near getting promoted. I figured It would be maybe 5 or 6 moves before I would deliver a checkmate.
I still had over 8 minutes of time on my clock, and that is an eternity when you are winning by that much. However I was having some connection troubles and almost disconnected a couple of times during the game.
