I guess the crickets in the room indicate that the rumors may in fact be true?
Is V3 Ever Going Beyond Beta? Really - Is it?

http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/how-long-untill-v3?ncc=1#first_new_comment
I think that's the general consensus.

I see. I have to be honest - This is getting a little bit beyond tolerable at this point. I think the community as a whole has been more than patient enough. We're all used to things of this nature being repeatedly delayed but this is just too much now.
The thing I don't get is that if they just released it as it is NOW, people would be happier than if they continued to work on perfecting it. Just release it, slap V3 all over everything and do some advertising, and then continue to work on it as the player base uses it. I really don't see the the reason for the hold up at this point considering that I've been using V3 for two weeks straight now without one hitch or problem whatsoever. It's ready.

It is getting closer. It is no longer just limited to premium. If I had to guess, barring any massive bugs, it will probably go live by the end of the year. Just a guess as there are still some bugs; I couldn't chat or see existing chat in Live earlier for example. That bug has happened a couple of times in the past.

Hi,all.What is this V3-thing?
Please help me with this.
Go down to the bottom of your page and click on "try the new chess.com" and then ...try it. That's "V3". Version 3 of Chess.com's software. It's an upgrade and overhaul to the site.

This is V2 (version 2) of chess.com. It represents some formatting changes that a lot of people got all bent out of shape about back when they ditched V1, but now I don't even remember what V1 looked like or how it functioned.
The folks who run the site have been promising all these upgrades that will be unveiled as V3 for a couple of years now. (Tactical error: they should have kept quiet and just upgraded the site without fanfare, which is not how IT folks like to do things). Now everyone makes fun of them for not having the V3 setup debugged for three years.

According to Erik, V3 will no longer support the imbedding of photos into text. You'll have to link to a photo on another site, so a representation of that image will show here. Unfortunately, as you can see from the two images inserted this way by trysts, the off-site host of a couple of her images no longer supports those images or no longer exist. So text becomes incomprehensible. Erik poo-poohed the idea that this was a big problem in the other V3 thread, but I still don't buy it.

Feel free to play around with the appearance of v3 There are a number of built in themes to choose from, as well as the ability to customize your own!
Just be sure you're using the bug icon on the screen to report any bugs you run into!

Thanks!I`ve tried it several times but I must say I prefer the current(green default theme).Though the V3 looks a bit better and u dont need java to play the computer,it is not as "easy" to use and "handle".And to me,thats the main thing.
I wish they fix current bugs and keep the "old" one!
You have to realize that for some of us - things like engine analysis and time stamping are something we've come to expect as the norm because it is on every other chess site out there. Chess.com just tries to be the most user friendly but it's sorely, sorely in need of an upgrade on numerous fronts due to how far behind it's competition it is at this point.
V3 is a great step in the right direction. I wouldn't even play live chess here before the most recent updates and changes to V3. At this point, I don't really play anywhere else. It just needs to hurry itself along to "finished" and become the standard around here for everyone.

Maybe I'm not looking closely enough but I don't see a problem with trysts' images. Is the off-site host she is using imgur? That's supposed to pretty reliable, and is used extensively by reddit.com (and reddit.com/r/chess)

It seems likely you have never worked on a commercial website. They have a functional website now. If they released the beta as is, they might bring things to a complete standstill. It is one thing to have several hundred people trying out the site, generating occasional bug reports. It is quite another to have 10,000 people using it, including some who will stretch everything backwards and sideways just to see if they can break it.
You have been a member here for only 5 months. It might be a little too soon for you to be declaring things to be "intolerable" and pontificating about whether or not the whole community has been patient enough.

This is fair enough and you make good points. Perhaps I'm just a little impatient considering how I do possess insight on these kinds of matters and I know that V3, when it IS finally the mainframe around here, will be extremely well received. I can't stress enough how much more impressed I am with it now than I was several months ago when I first looked.

Could anyone tell me how you have to change your club theme in v3?
Don't think it is possible. The only theme you can change is your personal theme.

Currently you can upload. Maybe the decision was changed to allow it. I seem to recall at one point in the past the rule was changed on v2 also but the upload option is available in that version too.

In my club Chess Team Holland there is a flag of south africa as background. I wonder if that's a bug or that i have to wait until chess.com allowes me to change the theme.

Oh wait. I guess I should have looked a little more deeply on a group I was an SA in. In the Manage Club section there is a link to Edit Club Profile. You can change the background there.

What does V3 have to do with it?
Have the Super Admins of your group tried to change it? You are an admin, and have less powers than the super admins.
I asked about this in the premium members only forum but naturally it's going to garner more views and responses here. I am really enjoying the beta for V3, love the direction the site's going in, and think if this could just ever move into a final state, Chess.com would easily blow down what little competition it already has out there. The thing is that there are rumors that V3's "beta" IS the final state. It's never moving beyond what it is now and it will always only be available to premium members. Whether it's premium only or not (although that is a question), is this thing ever really happening? Is V3 in it's final state ever going to be a reality here or not?
