Is Wesley So going to become number one player in chess?

23 year old Philippine born Wesley So has had a terrific year so far.

Very solid player that recently joined USA chess federation has just several days ago took the leadership in Tata Steel tournament, which frustrated Magnus Carlsen. So also hit the highest rating of his career-2820, which is incredibly impressive. On the other hand Carlsen has seemed to have some difficulties showing his best for last months and saw his rating decreasing to 2837. 

   However Wesley So lacks Carlsen's sterling performance in super tournaments fighting the best chess players. So it will require for him to show his best to take the 1-st place in the world.

Thank you for correcting me about the tournament still being in progress. It just shows how attentive the users on this site are.

So when Wei Yi becomes number 1, he'll stay there for 25 years. So So better grab his 15 minutes of fame while he still can I guess. 

This would be interesting to see. Wesley now affords to have a personal coach after receiving a grant from Samford Fellowship. He would never reached this level had he remain with his old federation.
