I first played competitive chess on the Isle of Wight - it was Newport Chess Club and we met at the Bugle Hotel in Newport. This was about 1978-80. Is there anyone who still plays at Bembridge who  played back then?

Yes IpswichMatt - there are a few you may know? . . .  Philip Kennerley, John Oglander and Carl Sheeran.

Club that meet at Bembridge are going to be meeting at Sandown Conservative Club from Thursday 7th November 2019.

Thanks John, I remember John Oglander out of those. John always brought his own set and board which were a pleasure to play with (apart from the fact I'd always lose to him).

I live in Norfolk now so Sandown is going to be too much of a trek for me! Do you know if they're still using the same old chess pieces that they used back in the 70's? They were old and heavy if I recall correctly.
