Isolated Queen pawns

Looking for advice on how best to play against an Isolated Queen Pawn (IQP). I have the Black side of a French which ended up with my opponent having an IQP. Generally speaking, I think I understand I need to first attack the square in front of the IQP, and if possible occupy it with a piece, best would be a knight, right? Thanks in advance for everyone's help & advice!
