It it legal to take your score sheet with you if you leave the table?

I had some drama at the chess club the other night.  During a classical time control game I had to make a bowel movement.  It seemed logical to me at the time to take my score sheet with me and study the position a bit, in my minds eye, blindfold style, while I'm dropping the kids off at the pool.  My opponent didn't take to kindly to this for whatever reason and complained to the tournament director.  So there I am in the middle of a nice duce and the T.D. is banging on the stall door demanding I come out.  Obviously I cannot just pinch it off and comply with his commands.  He even stuck his head over the door and peeped me with my pants down.

I maintain I didn't break any rules.  It's not like the score sheet is some top secret knowledge.  And no, I was not using my phone or anything else while I was pooping.

Needless to say, I'm stinking mad about this.

You should clarify if you mean USCF or FIDE but, before I go look for the rules, I would say the scoresheet would have to stay at the table. It is just too easy to take it somewhere and get assistance from other players when you have the scoresheet. Yes, the position could be recreated manually, in a similar situation, but the sheet makes it much easier not to miss something.

FIDE Rules of Chess, rule 8.2: 8.2 The scoresheet shall be visible to the arbiter throughout the game.

It's seems you're in the wrong OP. I suggest you stop with the drama and be apologetic about your mistake. Nobody wants to hear about your pooping. You should count yourself lucky if you weren't kicked out of the tournament for cheating.

You're free to analyze in your head all you like.

You're not free to take your scoresheet out of the room. There's no way you wouldn't at least suspect that's an issue.

Due to all the puns and off-putting attempts at humor, it is pretty clear that this is a troll attempt. I'm sure you thought you were being hilarious but I can assure you, comedy will never be your profession.

As for the question, no! All you would be doing is inviting people to suspect you of cheating.

Any strong player should be able to remember the moves without the notation anyway, so it's a stupid thing to do in the first place for them. For lower-rated players, I'd be highly suspicious.

Do I "smell" a bit of trolling going on? Wink

My default, even in suspect cases of trolling,  is to answer the question. You never know when someone is being serious or someone else will come along and really want to know the answer to a similar question.

Yep, you gave him the answer in Post #3, so that should be the end of it. I guess we'll see shortly.
