They don't want to lose. They think there has to be a way to win and they are trying to figure it out.

I get into a winning position or up material the game just freezes. Where as before my opponent had been moving at a reasonable pace, the game screeches to a resounding halt. In fact I currently have three games in which I am up or about to go up significant material and my opponents dont seem to be moving. Does this happen to you often? If so do you know why?
