Warning. Don't bite. It's a Bait.

Below are 2 baits. They are parts of games. How do you think they continued?

Bait #1:

Bait #2:

DrSpudnik

In game 1, black has to get back to the 8th rank fast to avoid mate. White may have played Kh4, and dumdum took the f-pawn

In the 2nd game, there is a setup for Bxh7+ Kh8; B(back)+ Kg8; Rh8+ Kxh8; Qh1...# soon. So Black probably "won" a pawn with ba3

SMesq

#1.  Kh4 all the way, totally sewn up.

#2.  Black must defend h7 or find a forcing move, what else is there? ....Rfd8?   ..g6 is meh, always attack!   would still rather be white tho' . . .

Waiting for more comments, I will post the whole game tomorrow. Just as the theme suggests, Don't bite, it's a bait.

DrSpudnik

It's not the bait, it's just a bait.

I'll bite.

In diagram bait #1, what is white best choice?

Diagram bait #2 is quite obvious, but you will be surprise about the ending.

JMB2010

Wait, is the question how did the game continue, or what the best continuation is?

waffllemaster

In the first one I don't see a big difference between Kf4 and Kh4.  Seems winning either way.  I also don't see what the "bait" is here.

In the second one white is threatening mate and the rook so... black loses either way but before resigning I guess he could move the rook and hope white doesn't see the mate.

Here is the complete game of bait #1:

a pawn bait that caused checkmate.

And here

is the complete game of bait #2:

A beautiful checkmate on a blitz 5,0 game. Of course I couldn't have seen the checkmate in such a short time. It's just an instinct.

You could have delivered mate straight away, no need of that silly pawn move.

The pawn move was to block the rook check. thanks for your analysis.

#1  I fail to see why that was singled out for any special analysis?

#2   25.Bg6+ is better (and forced) after 25...Kg8 26.Rh8+ Kxh8 27.Qh1+ Kg8 28.Qh7#

why am I even bothering with this.....

Thanks. Good analysis that I fail to see.

Word of advice, don't advertise the games you won by being 'handed to you on a plate' by an opponent's complete lapse of sight. Bad form really, pick the games where you had a creative idea......and in and Blitz game?

What do you mean by advertise? If you don't mind I want to see your creative idea.

SMesq

Well you're saying 'look at this cool thing' and it ain't cool it's just weak play.

I mean, in the first game if black just plays Rc8 then -in blitz- maybe YOU'LL be the one making a fool of yourself with a clanger on the next move. nothing to be proud of.

bean_Fischer

I know. That's what makes them so interesting. Well, they are just weak plays, but they take something to point them.

Chessaddictedprakhar

why in the #1 not Kf8??

Because it's a blitz game.
