Joining a Chess Club- good idea or bad at this early stage?

Hi guys,

I was made aware by a co-worker of a local chess club just up the road from where I work. As I stated in a previous post I have been playing chess casually for over 15 years and want to become a stronger player. My 8 year old son has fallen in love with the game and I want to become a competant player for him to play against at home. As for my son, he knows the basics and has learned basic strategy and some basic tactics online. Is it too early in the process for us to join a chess club or should something like that be put on the back-burner until we get better?

Join the club !!  Playing OTB is what it's really all about.  You'll lose some games, but so what?  You'll improve quickly, and the chances are that you will win some games too.  You are lucky to have a club so close according to what others from your country have posted in other forums, so go for it and good luck.

What are you waiting for? Get going man and join now Smile

If by any chance you don't like that particular club for any reason, find another. You cannot beat actual people to talk about the game to, and play against.
