Chess is a low stakes opportunity to stand at the edge of my mental capabilities.
Low stakes is important. This means I can make mistakes without letting it ruin my day or cost me my job.

chess to me is more than "just a game" its a mind set ...
I say this because after a long day of doing mind numbing stuff, chess givs my mind a damn good work out ... one that word puzzles just can't do
chess is DEFINITELY more than just a game:
it is a hobby, a test of my mental capabilites, gives my brain a workout, my passion etc. etc.
plus a really good point is that ur parents cant not let u play chess, it is not just a game. chess can be classified as an 'educational game', this means a lot to parents... the word EDUCATIONAL... great excuse
Chess is a culture, a mythology or blueprint on how to make decisions not only in a game but in life itself. Chess mirrors life by allowing mere mortals to become immortal if only for a whisper of a moment.
Chess is a game and also art for me.
Here is why?
I don't mind losing but if I played my best game then I would enjoy it very much. Also I remember games that are beautiful although badly played by both parties. eg Altman vs Deep Fritz with all the White's pawn on the 4th rank.
Is chess just a game to you? or is it somthing more? Give me YOUR openion of what chess is to YOU.
