Just Another Method of Tactics Training

Playing through 10-20 master games a day to learn new ideas on tactics and attacking is my favorite part of training everyday. However, I am not a genius and I don't have a photographic memory so I must find some good way to learn outstanding attacking ideas. There are three steps in my method.

1. Zip through Tal's games to find outstanding ideas. I love how he targets f7 square and often sac a piece or two pieces to destroy the king's castle.

2. Trim the pgn to turn it into a puzzle. Let's say the attack begins at move 17.Nxf7, then my puzzle will start at 16..., just like any online tactics. And, I often make sure the puzzle is not necessary long. Usually, Tal's ideas are about 5-move long.

3. Make a collection of puzzle, and play with a free software with guess the move like Lucas chess.

Here is an example.

Chessgames is free for searching and downloading individual pgn. However, endgame search and sac search are only for premium
