Just got a book, what else besides just reading?

So I finally found a book I'd like to read (thanks to this thread: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/is-reading-books-about-chess-strategies-tacticts-openings-really-necessary-to-become-a-good- ) )

I started reading it and I am doing pretty well and it came to my mind that there might be something else I can do just besides reading. Should I take notes, should I get my old dusty board and pieces out and play out the examples that were given in the book?
Anyone got suggestions?

You must throw away the book. Books are for lazy people. Books will rot your brain.

Books are great. I have read several and they improve you game constantly. I would suggest following the examples in a real board, because it does help visualize the game better. Also chess.com has plenty of great features to take advantage of.
