Go on Kaspy show them what for lol

That's a really intriguing blend: pussies, riots and religion. Respectfully, but within the boundaries of the whole mess, I bet a prayer could help: may the good Saviour send us more pussies, less riots and less religions.

I saw a thing on the news about Pussy Riot being sentanced to 2 years in jail.  They didn't mention Kaspy.  I guess a bad rock band going to jail for 2 years is news worthy, but the Russians arresting protesters at that trial isn't.

The Russians will arrest people for "Hooliganism" and "Extremism," both of which are free to interpret any way Putin wishes.  It effectively deprives the citizens of their freedoms that the current Russian government claims they have.  The Soviets denied these freedoms from their people, but at least they were open and honest about it!  Now they tell their people it's alright to speak out and/or protest, but then arrest those that do.  I guess it's a good way to find the "troublemakers"

RIP Kasparov.

Can you believe how much press this "Pussy Riot" thing is getting?  Which is a good thing, we gotta stand up to those Commie bastards, trying to send the Riot Grrl community to a gulag!

Even here in Miami, which is probably the most insular, self-absorbed big city in the United States, everyone is talking about the court case!  Even Cuban radio is weighing in tonight saying how we're going back to the Cold War with Russia!

Free Pussy Riot!

Enjoy mother Russia!

This has become every YouTube comment thread ever. They all start on topic, then veer off into geopolitical flamewar hell. Even cute kitty videos!

The odd thing is, this stuff with PUSSY RIOT probably never would have happened during the Gorbachev era in the USSR, especially with Ronnie Reagan watching over things!  As a homage to those wonderful times, I leave you this, from the award-winning blockbuster "Rocky IV" (1985):

Whatever happened to Survivor?

I guess they didn't survive.

johnmusacha

Jesus Christ!  It's 2008!  Everyone gets to retire on top ya know...

You, Kasparov, or Survivor?

Walter0508

just watched B.B.C. coverage not one mention of Kasparov,it was almost as if they want to tell the story but dont really care ,even the human rights spokesman didnot mention his arrest just talked about the russian church being in putin's pocket ," a senior bishop has said putin is ordained by god" .does anyone know where Kasparov is now is he free or do we not know or has he simply disapeared this to me would be more enlightening on the state of russia under putin than a 2 year sentance for vandalism..if this had happened in st paul's they would have been dragged of and tried just the same and no one would blink an eye.

"Further controversy was stirred up by the detention of Kasparov, now one of Putin's fiercest critics. He said he was beaten by the police who detained him, but police claimed that he bit an officer's finger. After his release, Kasparov tweeted that he was going to an emergency room "to check my injuries and to prove that I am not drunk and haven't bitten anyone."

How do you prove you havent bitten anyone?  Lie detector?  Plastercast of your teeth? A line-up with your mouth open?  Two little indents on their neck?  A muzzle that is rusted shut on your face?  Clear evidence that your teeth were surgically removed years ago?

Say you were once the pride of a nation....And you didn't get boxing lessons off mike Tyson, but are freinds with Hollyfield...Believe that pussy is good and you pray everyday...And tell them your best friend is head of the KGB.

According to Kasparov's twitter he was freed from detention early on Saturday morning.

I am out of police custody, going to emergency room to check my injuries and to prove that I am not drunk or biting anyone!

Police brutality is out of control in this country. They urgently need a reality check.

KarlPilkington

The Headline says "BEATEN by police".

This implies that they really hammered him...  its important to know if this was police brutality or not...

johnmusacha

So is Omar out of jail yet?  What's the updates?

Police brutality is out of control everywhere and I don't really think that's the problem here.  Kasparov was bruised - poor baby.  Much more important is that he wasn't doing anything wrong and was silenced for speaking out against Putin.  That is very dangerous.  The problem is not the brutality of the police; it is that they are being used for political control to silence the peaceful opposition.  The world does not need an autocratic Russia run for Putin's personal pleasure.
