You are the one who thinks that Ilyumzhinov is from Tatarstan. He is from Kalmykia. You are not very bright.
Kasparov for FIDE Presidency!

I want Kasparov to win, though I frankly think the post is beneath him. He deserves a dignified retirement considering his accomplishments: top chess author, world champion, etc.
I know a lot about the Caucauses, I have been there many times, and my grandfather was posted in the Caucauses in 1942, mostly around Pyatigorsk. It is humourous you must learn about your own native region through the American wikipedia.

Kasparov is an egomaniac who doesn't come off as very likeable nor very trustworthy. That being said, he does know a lot about chess and may indeed have good intentions for the development of the game.
Still, I would rather not see him as president as we would have to bear seeing him at every turn for the next x amount of years (what's to say he won't hold onto his 'throne' longer than the current pres?).
Further, what has the current Pres done to justify so much 'hate'? the only thing people criticize him for is "corruption" which, to the best of my knowledge, has never been proven.
Objectively speaking, his results as Pres look relatively respectable: look at how many top-flight tournaments there are today; the money is getting better each year and the game is steadily growing in popularity. Even Kasparov, in that one 30min interview you can find on youtube, said "We must give him certain credit for that" which basically translates (in Kaspy terms) to "He's done a very good job"..
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "change" but that is usually nothing but an empty slogan which conceals personal ambition and opportunism..
All in all, for us average chess players, who cares who's elected? This is a power struggle between power-hungry individuals; international institutions have never been renown for their reliability nor transparency...so what makes anybody think that Kasparov will change any of that? From what I've heard him say about his candidacy there was no clear plan of action that would convince any neutral observer that he is indeed the best choice.
Hear hear! I think Kirsan has done a good job also. You are right, this "corruption" thing is getting overblown.

I do believe him when he says that he can bring corporate sponsors. He's still the only well known chess player outside of the chess world. Now you might say that's only good for top level chess and that might be true (although more exposure in the media for chess would benefit all). One thing for sure is that's never going to happen as long as Ilyumzhinov is in power.

Yes I am saying bribery is fine. Get over it. As I said before, what the white middle class calls "bribery" is what most of the rest of the world calls wealth redistribution and developmental capital.
how much do you charge in order to stop posting nonsense..?
i'll pay you some more so that you support my opinions, ok?
Yes I am saying bribery is fine.
You sir, have no idea what you are talking about. Bribery is NOT fine.
Have you ever lived in a country where bribery is commonplace?
Like bribe a clerk at the land office to change official ownership of your house, for instance?

Yeah that's really relevant to the complaints about Ilyumzhinov.
It may or may not be relevant , but the general idea behind your claim was that 'bribery in principle is not a vice; in fact it is a virtue'!
I live in a country where bribery is the norm and non bribery is fringe! Really! And we see how bribery and corruption plunders the poverty stricken people of the wealth that is legitimately theis, both at micro and macro levels.
Terming bribery as 'redistribution of wealth' is something you must have seen in one of your dreams and in the Third World where I live, it plunders the masses of their legitimate wealth intended for developement !
It is the singlemost vice that plagues Asia, Latin America and may be , Africa!
Good news indeed (Kasparov's candidacy). FIDE has been a disgrace for almost a century. Let us hope that under Kasparov's leadership and with the energy and commitment of the very impressive team he has assembled things will be different.

Former WCC Max Euwe made an excellent FIDE president. Nevertheless, I don't think Kasparov is up to the task. His botched attempts at leading the PCA and GMA show he does not have the leadership skills to handle a major organization.

You think the current president is better? I don't think there's gonna be third alternative.
Who me?
