Kasparov on Women chess players

I think the only time Kasparov is being a bit dishonest is when he makes that statement. With his line about creativity, he's saying they're pretty good at a lot of things  but not creative enough to be great. Which is mostly true since it's backed by facts.

men tend to outshine women in anything that is not feminine.

they are better at writing crap on internet forums, they are better at putting down the opposite sex due to their delusionary sense of grandeur, they are better at anything that is a total waste of time such as chess, politics, armpit farting. the list is endless.

How can the idea that women aren't creative be backed up by facts. Emmy Noether and Mary Shelley are two women who achieved fame because of their creativity. One in math the other in the arts. There are countless other examples.

Kasparov:  "I’m sure that women can do many things better than men in many fields."

As a reasonable man, I have to agree with Garry.   Only an unreasonable person would disagree.

Hello Senior Patzer. "Unreasonable person" over here waving at you.

So are you disagreeing with modern day Garry? That's a quote from 30 years ago.

What you believe in your 20s may not be what you believe in your 50s.

(Although to be honest, I don't know what his current view is. I hope he's changed his mind as he grew more experienced. 30 year old quotes don't mean very much.)

Hi Heather, waving back.  You disagree with Garry being sure that there are many things that women can do better than men in many fields?

"Writing crap on the internet,(*25)"

Someone may rap this line into a lyric...someday.

whats so controversial about what garry said? women are statistically not as high placing as men at chess thats not sexism its fact. its also a fact that women and men by nature like different thngs and act different. men are by large better then women at chess the tournament results speak for themselves

this isnt to say that women are never good at chess in fact there are a lot of women that would destroy me at the game

Very reasonable.   Only an unreasonable person would disagree.

Only an unreasonable person would set up an argument by saying that anyone who disagrees with him or her is being unreasonable. This would crash and burn in a logic class.

Actually, the logical fallacy in the original post if the fallacy of appeal to authority, in this case, stating that because Kasparov said it about women and chess, it must be true.

here is Garry's second wife Daria, of course you can tell that he valued intellectual ability in women first and foremost

You (stuzzicadenti) have just relieved me of any concerns I may have had about Kasparov's children being well-nourished in infancy.  I have seen buildings designed by the most prominent architects of my generation that weren't as solid and well put together as that, and don't they look great in formal wear, too?

Yes.  Thank you.  I thought such reasoning was apparent.

Impotent argument. Grow up, guys. If you felt secure in your masculinity, you wouldn't have to put down women.

what does that have to do with anything

You are right, there might be slight differences in how brains work according to genetics. However, the differences are very slight and due to the much larger natural variance among people, the only way to know if a woman or man is better at a particular activity is to look at each person individually. You probably find Kasparov's old quote to be reasonable, but placed in the larger context of what he was saying it suggests that some activities are meant for men while some are meant for women. The idea that women are better at certain things while men are better at others contributes to the difficulty women have in being taken seriously in STEM fields or other fields typically thought to be male dominated. It also plays a role in women being disinterested in those activities from a younger age. The idea that men and women are equally important but one has more talent for nurturing and empathizing while the other has a talent for logic and problem solving was an old concept that still causes problems.

Avatar of Djohnmark06

well its not a matter of there might be differences, it is literally a scientific fact that women and mens brains work differently and what garry was saying is that statistically men are better then women at chess. Also women are disinterested in things because they just dont like it. it is there choice it has nothing to do with how society views them  women choose not to go to STEM just like how there are men who choose not to go there
