Kasparov Seized by Russian Police

dio-gen, thanks for explaining the Russian election process from your perspective. It's hard to find the views of an "average citizen" from the news since of course they prefer to cover the more dramatic happenings. Based on your description and early news reports it seems like ballot-stuffing wasn't an big issue, at least in most districts.
European observers allege the elections were unfair because of:
- frequent abuse of administrative resources
- media coverage strongly in favour of the ruling party
In other words, the observers claim United Russia was shown on the state-run television more often and in a more favorable light. Also, they were able to use at least government resources to help with their campaign.
Do you disagree? If true, wouldn't you consider these barriers to a fair election? I'm not interested in a debate... I'm just curious about your views.

I feared it would come to this. Brilliant sacrifice or a patzer's gaff? The aparat is comfortable ruthlessly dealing with threats. While you have to admire Kasparov's idealism, I think he made a mistake.
As they did not send an assassin, perhaps they will let him go soon? Please let it not be 20 years in Siberia.

I think this debate is not going to a conclusion. Apparently, the Russians want a dictator. I say let them have him, he's only dangerous in his own country.
Nobody was concerned when the Americans voted a dangerous idiot into office, whyshouldn't the Russians get equal treatment?

Can somebody please tell me what exactly Putin has done wrong while in office? Russians are far better off now than they were before he was in office. Viva la Putin!

The vision of russians differs greatly from one of the democratic state. This is funny, but dio-gen doesn't understand, that every man must have equal rights. Putin is a worker, he got the job from you and other citizens of Russia to rule the country, but not to judge other people! Today we see that Russia comes back to Stalin's time - the TV, radio, newspapers are under Kremlin control, there is no real opposition in Russia. The "opposite" leaders - Zuganov and Girinovski serve Kremlin and make it stronger - they are really clowns. According the russian constitution, as I know, the president mustnt be russian, that because around 100 nations live there. Putin is really popular among the people because they hear only his voice as in communistic times. As a former KGB leader he has a power to control mass media as also all other sides of life.

thank you 'tonightonly7'
i didn't post this with any intent of starting a debate. just figured kasparov has a lot of fans here and they would want to know about this. i thought it would spur folk's own research into the topic. I was surprised no one posted earlier so i took the liberty given to me by God and my hands.
