I am a subscriber to the e-bulletin Popbitch (by no means a chess focused organ) from which I've just received the following:

It's the 20th anniversary of Garry
Kasparov vs Deep Blue - the totemic
event in AI history when the chess
champion lost to a computer. Hear
Kasparov talk about it (& AI) for
the first time, plus legendary MIT
Labs Prof Mike Hawley. Don't miss
out! 30th May, 645pm, London SW1

I recently saw a documentary about his match with Deep Blue and how much he was upset because in the second game the computer didn't make the move he expected. So he started ranting about how there was something very fishy going on and how it was actually some human GM the one who played that move.

I wonder if he keeps thinking that today.

Gary always has a lot to say.

Magnus is right, he shouldn't have lost in 1997.

2Q1C, you live in England and you want autographs from GMs. This may be your chance!

He wasn't just playing Deep Blue.  He was playing Deep Blue, and some GM intermediaries and programmers.  It was a total scam.  That's not to say computers aren't superior now, but back then they were pulling shenanigans and cheats, anything for the prestige that IBM sought.

Excellent lead, Karpark, thank you. I read the link and two words stand out 'implacable and tireless'. AI is growing all the time.  I should make for a compelling and intriguing talk.
