kasparov shouldnt have lost the first game of the blitz series.. but since theres time you gotta live with it :P
Kasparov Wins!!!

The games looked mostly like positional grinds to me other than the knight sac and that other sac (forgetting which one)
Tactics aren't always better than positional play, but Kasparov knew Karpov
was getting into time trouble almost every game, so he knew Karpov would run
out of time trying to calculate all the combinations.

Kasparov - probably the greatest player ever to pick up a chess piece
NOT probably, for sure...

i agree too
I disagree, Fischer was best ever imo.

Kasparov vs. Fischer:
i) K was World Champ a lot longer than Fischer and defended his title on several ocassions
ii) Overall, didn't K dominate his nearest peers more than Fischer did his?
iii) K was at the peak of his game for longer than Fischer was and K is still one of the world's best now despite his advancing years
iv) K didn't lose motivation after he became World Champ - he kept winning things
v) K didn't need to have his own perfect playing conditions in place before he could play at his best
vi) K had a higher peak rating than Fischer
vii) Check out this page:

In almost all measures of greatness on that page, Kasparov beats the pants off Fischer. Fischer, for example, only beats Kasparov for a 1-year Chessmetrics peak! Otherwise, for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years and 20 years, Kasparov owns Fischer according to Chessmetrics.

As a long time Korchnoi fan, and someone that pretty much wished death upon Karpov. I have to take my hat off to him. He his truely one of the best ever, and deserves his place in chess history. For a 57 year old man that is still rated 2619, he did about as well as could be expected.
Anatoly Karpov...thank you for everything you have brought to the great game of chess. And thank you for everything you have done for the game of chess.

What are you talking about. Karpov never said a word about the KGB kidnapping Korchonois family and was never above getting fellow russians to throw games his way so he could win tornaments. So soon you forget.
Kasparov vs. Fischer
vi) Kasparov isnt a raving lunitic

HUH?

I was disappointed at the way Karpov was playing. He used to be known for moving very quickly and here we saw him constantly getting into time trouble. Totally unlike him. Age factor I guess. Kasparov has never before walked all over him like this. I am a fan of both players, especially Kasparov but I just wanted to see more of a competetive duel.

Yes, the match was too one sided and may mean there will be no interest/sponsorship for them to play more. Lets face it, Karpov has regressed much more from his peak than Kasparov.

Wouldn't Karpov have played alot better in long play against kasparov ?
I imagine both would play better with more time, thus it wouldnt change the result much. Karpov's recent tournament disaster ( in 9 rounds he didnt win a single game ) clearly indicate he would also lose badly to Kasparov in classic chess as well at this point in their careers. For me, it would be more interesting to see another Karpov/Korchnoi match and I think the match would be much more competitive.
In the end Garry Kasparov proved to be too much for Anatoly Karpov, winning
5 straight blitz games before finishing with a draw as black to end the rematch
25 years after their historic World Championship, played in Valencia, Spain, a
city rich in chess tradition.
Karpov repeatedly got in time trouble during the games and Kasparov, never
one to shy away from tactics, repeatedly created gambling and sharp positions
for the strategic player to deal with on short notice.
In the end the fans got what they wanted, two of the greatest ever to play
going at it once again, like Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson playing a Senior Tour
game for all to see.
