There are not tournamens online you can earn OTB rating
KID BEATING LEVEL20 CHESS.COM, DRAWING STOCKFISH 20

How about the FIDE online ARENA? Is that legit? I'm asking all these just because I have pointed out a while ago that it is very time consuming going to OTB. But if there's really no option then we just have to. keep going.
FIDE arena can give you a rating that is shown in profile, but has nothing to do with OTB rating.

1and7then8.... but in otb tournaments they don't consider any online rating... sorry i'm not a chess player and i'm not into chess so I don't have any idea how things work

Any online rating is as legitimate as any OTB rating, it's just a performance metric relative to the pool of players that are subject to it. Some sites or brackets might have stronger or weaker players, so in that sense it scales differently from rating system to rating system but they're all valid, and usually more valid than OTB because there are more games taken into account (almost always)

They do not.

1AND7then8... yea those are the things that I want to be clear on. You know the kid can't go by himself to tournaments or are we even gonna be pursuing this thing. He won't get rich playing chess

That's also the dilemma for parent... you don't to regret and say I should have pushed him more. you know how kids are... sometimes they have the talent but get distracted with some other things like social media. they just want to spend time there rather than doing nerdy stuff like chess.

hence my question too about him beating stockfish if that's something unusual for a 9 y/o then I would do more so he can pursue this further on

sred… I don't know... hence i'm asking... I see these tournaments like the chess olympiad, junior chess championship... can he reach that if he only does online chess

No, if you want a real chess career, you need to play OTB. But to get started and to get at least a rough estimation of the real playing strength, online play is great. Note that the Arena online rating is actually an official FIDE rating, but independent from the OTB ratings.

If it's a serious Stockfish that hasn't been artificially handicapped, that's not just unusual, but simply unheard of. You might already have guessed from the reactions.

that's why I even put on stockfish facebook page because I don't know how to make out of that... the setting of stockfish when he was playing it -- strength 20, book variety high, play style solid, 30 mins

That's the reason too that I am not divulging his account. I don't want him to be taunted especially when they play with him and he loses. That's just traumatic for a kid.

So a few weekends ago... we went to a chess game... his last game was 7 months ago. He is not consistent... his OTB rating is just in the 500s... then he won that tournament... I was surprised so I ask him to play again stockfish which he usually loses... and he made draws several times and then last night that's when he beat it.
My 9 y/o keeps on drawing a level 20 stockfish and beats level 20 chess.com. Travel to chess events takes so much time and money. Are there official online tournaments he can join to accumulate uscf or fide ratings? Thanks for input!
Well yes, but actually no.
