Definitely get him membership at the kid's site at chess.com. It's 100% safe, ideal for kids, and very instructive while still being fun. Plus there would be no need to get him any other software because all he needs is on the site.

I know a litte 8 yr old who plays chess titans on the home computer and plays chess with his grandfather. Do you think the kid's site at chess.com would be fun for him? And as far as software goes, do you think Chessmaster or fritz would be a good suggestion? He plays a lot on the wii (I think that is nintendo hooked up to the tv. .... Not sure.) and I don't know if there is a good chess game for that. Any suggestions for a Christmas gift would be appreciated. Stwils
