Knight for 3 pawns

Any ideas about this exchange? I can take 3 pawns but will lose the knight. I will end up in a superior position (difficult to see how not when removing opponents 3 pawns) but am not sure if it's a good trade. He will still have his queen, 2 rooks, and both knights, I will just be down the knight.

just all depends since it will take 3 turns to take the 3 pawns while the oppenent will still have time on his side

He will be spending those three turns running from the knight. First a rook, then his queen. He will be in a lesser position at the end. It's a hard call for me because only the first pawn is "free". If I take the 2nd then the knight is lost whether I take the third or not.

I think it might be worth it in the end game.  That will be three less chances he'll have to promote to queen.  You can't promote your knight.  But then, position means a lot, too.

Check out the Dominguez Perez vs Kamsky game in the World Mind Games blindfolded today Dec 14.  Between moves 19 and 29 Dominguez Perez traded a knight for three pawns

There's a well known tabiya in the French Classical, where black exchanges his knight for three pawns. Goes like this:

The jury is still out on this one, IMO.
