Knight Moves

My opponents generally charge in with knights blazing. I seem to miss this attack or don’t defend properly. Then they have their choice of chess pieces to take. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
Well it really depends on the opening. Developing your knights is important because they have limited mobility. (unlike a bishop, rook, or queen, who can move to any square in their movement path.

When learning "Knight basics" of chess, I recommend simply learning tactics and looking out for quick Knight forks. When you develop your Knights, the most natural squares to put your Knights at the start of the game are c3, f3, c6, and f6. The reason is because there the Knights better control the center squares (e4, d4, e5, and d5).
Also a small idea, is that when a Knight moves - it changes the square color it is on. So if the Knight moves from g1 to f3 (dark square to light) then the next Knight move is from light square to dark (like f3 to g5: see g5 is a dark square). Due to this point, your two pieces can never be forked by a Knight if your pieces are on different color squares. Hope this helps a little
