YOu obviously have too much time on your hands.

But you have spent it better than I usually do. Laughing

Actually the entirety of this thread to this point took me about 45 minutes of elasped time in total... ;)

It is very important to change the facing of the knights if your opponent set the pieces on it.

There are no good photos of Greco.

Alekine: forward

Euwe (black in the photograph below): quarter turn facing the center

DiogenesDue

Nice :).  Added Alekhine's photo.  Added possible knight facing for Euwe also, pending a direct photo.

It would be nice to fill in the rest of this thread someday...several contributors have "disappeared" and posts are missing, as well as some photo links having gone obsolete...

Botvinnik tended to face his Knights outward instead of inward:

I enjoyed this. I thought because of old notation it was “normal” to have knights facing the king as to tell witch is your kings knight vs queens knight. Anyways, thanks for the post.

Updated Botvinnik.

Almost a new year...time to bump this for possible updates/new photos...

Who is Fischer playing in this photo?

Keres, at Bled 1959?

Paul Keres vs Robert James Fischer (1959) Bled to Death (chessgames.com)

Funnily enough, there was a post that identified that person and the exact circumstance of the photo, but they must have lost their account, their post is gone now and I can't remember who it was (and people sometimes wonder why I quote people's posts when I respond to them happy.png...).  I don't think it was Keres though...someone closer to Fischer than that, and during his youth when he did not leave NY that much?
