Komodo 8 Question

Hey, all

I have Komodo 8 and it is losing horribly to Strelka 6. I know it should not do that, so what should I do to make it stronger?

How many games? (What's the score?)

Make sure they're using the same amount of resources. (Hash, cpu, etc.)

Make sure you're giving the lizard food and water...

Komodo uses only one thread, by default.  If you have a multi-processor machine, you need to configure Komodo to use the number of physical cores you have.

Edit: How you do this depends on your GUI.

In a match of 100 games, Stralka will score maybe 75.0-25.0

Are there any parameters that should be set? Komodo should be rated 3100+

Yeah, that's not right. Like Crappov said, make sure they're using the same number of threads and same hash size. And make sure neither is pondering.

I usually have both of them pondering.

Could it be something with the serial number?

According to my extensive testing Komodo's rating on my computer is about 2950

If Komodo is winning 1/4 of the games, it can't be a problem with the serial number. Until you can figure out what's going on, I'd turn pondering off for both engines and use the task manager to verify that they're using the same percent of cpu resources.

If they are using different amounts of CPU, then how do I change it?

Do you know how to change the engine settings? Which GUI (graphical user interface) are you using?

Yes, I know how to change the engine settings. I am using "Chess Program 14"

It's Chessbase's version of Komodo 8. (I.E. Komodo is the native engine in the GUI)

What should Komodo's score against Strelka be?

I have no idea. I don't know anything about Strelka 6. Is it multi-processor?

Hmm, it appears the origin of Strelka 6 is somewhat in question. It doesn't look like something I'd be interested in playing with. You're on your own with that one.

But in general, I'd think Komodo should be slightly better than Strelka.

Komodo 8 is in the top 3 (i think place #2) on the engine rating list. Strelka is that strong i don't think....the score should probably be the oposite.

In the TCEC engine tournament Komodo 8 has a nice lead due to Gull3 losing to it all the time. Stockfish and Houdini trail by 1.5-2 points, though maybe Stockfish is winning it's second game against Komodo, Houdini hasn't been preforming well in these tournaments.....Always takes 3rd place lol.
