Hmm, it appears the origin of Strelka 6 is somewhat in question. It doesn't look like something I'd be interested in playing with. You're on your own with that one.

But in general, I'd think Komodo should be slightly better than Strelka.

Komodo 8 is in the top 3 (i think place #2) on the engine rating list. Strelka is that strong i don't think....the score should probably be the oposite.

The first post on this page is interesting:

Just for giggles I ran a 30 game blitz (3/2) match pitting Strelka 6 against Komodo 8.  Thirty games is statistically insignificant but my results do suggest there's something wrong with the OP's configuration.  Komodo 8 won the match with 10 wins, 18 draws and two losses.

Yeah, reptiles, birds, fish, and escape artists. Who'd 'a thunk it?

I think you all should try Strelka 6... its really strong. Yes, it is multiprocesser. It is completely free and can be found at http://www.sdchess.ru/engines/Strelka6.rar

Do any of you know if Komodo 9 is coming out soon? Or Houdini 5? Also, how strong is Samsung, Equinox 3.3 or Stockfish Barracuda?

theturk1234

Could anyone find me a link to non-torrent 6-man Syzygy tablebases?

Everybody, should I ban StraightKnight?

Another strong engine is Sugar 2.. it can be found at https://www.sendspace.com/file/gao5v0

Thank you, moderator.

Well, I loaded up Strelka 6 to give it a look-see. The only configurable engine setting is the hash table size. So I guess you have no control over ponder or thread settings, unless the GUI can control them.

Did you activate it properly? I have Komodo 8 and I think I recall reading it would not perform at full strength if not completely activated and updated. I downloaded the free Stockfish 5 and put it into the Fritz GUI that Komodo 8 came in, I find Stockfish 5 and Komodo 8 very often agree on move choices.

I tried it recently and it was only Win 32 and couldn't get multiple variations...quickly ditched.

The Win 32 doesn't bother me (I don't need bleeding edge performance), but not having multi-PV does hurt the analysis angle. I don't know if the lack of engine settings is a by-product of reverse engineering Houdini, or what.

yes, I am using w32.

Mine shows "Komodo 8 64 bit" in the analysis heading window, what does yours show?

theturk1234

it says "Komodo 8 W32"

You should contact Komodo 8 support.  Komodo 8 should win a match against that engine handily. Something is definitely awry.

6-man Syzygy non torrent?

Absolutely right.  Sure, it's insanely strong in human terms, they all are, but it's not competitive with the top engines, Komodo 8 and Stockfish.

The origins of Strelka are controversial but so are the origins of Rybka and Houdini.
