When Topalov played Anand in the world championship, just about every professional chess player went to the aid of... Anand. Ivanchuk explained why. He stated that Topalov, whom he suspected of cheating in the first half of San Luis, was losing against Kramnik and brought chess into disrepute by trying to suggest that Kramnik was cheating.

Kramnik wasn't the cheater, Topalov was. He used nefarious means to influence games that he couldn't win at the board.

Even now, Kramnik has numerous friends among his peers, fellow competitive chess players. Topalov is isolated despite his beautiful attacking style.

This thread, like so many chess.com threads, has the facts backwards. Kramnik was innocent. Topalov was the guilty party.

So two participants and Ivanchuk accuse Topalov of cheating in 2005 (San Luis) which you seem to have no problem with (and agree with).

Topalov accuses Kramnik of cheating in 2006 which you say brought the game into disrepute.

Hypocrite much?

I don't believe that either of them cheated.  I don't really have a problem with the allegations made against either one of them.  It just signifies that at high level events better planning and security should be in place or accusations will continue.

it was well known that Topalov was getting sign language signals from his trainer Danilov. Enough pictures were taken so we could crack the code.

Here, obviously, Danilov was signaling "Nc3"

And here, Danilov was signaling "Rxf6"

And here, Danilov was signaling "Oops, I meant Bxf6, sorry"

I miss the good old days of Fischer, Spassky, Korchnoi, Karpov, where players would routinely accuse each other of the wildest things involving yogurt, implants, mind reading, extortion, death squads, kidnapping, mind control devices planted inside chairs, thrown games, death threats, and mind control gurus, and no one took it personally.

Now, one little cheating accusation involving the bathroom, which would not have even made page 79 of Chess Life back in the 70's, causes people to "not miss" Topalov years after the incident.

Whatever happened to the good old days where misbehaviour was the norm?

Kramnik is playing Topalov in an hour, maybe Kramnik will cheat again (lol).

Things to watch for:

1. Bathrooms.

2. Sign Language.

3. Yogurt, especially fruit flavored.

4. Tin foil hats.

David210

Carlsen is cheating.

Where is a website for this?

Its easier to observe all the cheating going on with motion video. Also infrared cameras and high speed photography can help find the more obvious cases. Is anyone NOT cheating at this point? Probably whoever is losing ...

I have actually wondered if anyone has gone to the length of having an implant that, involves some sort of battery operated, vibrating, radio controlled device that would be utilized with Morse code ?

Kramnik went into the bathroom CP6033. It shows on the video footage. How much is Vladimir Putin paying you guys to cover this thing up?

Veselin Topalov's team should have refused to play in Elista. COMPUTER CABLES were found in the BATHROOM! All Topalov wanted was for them BOTH to use the public toilets. Clearly, something nefarious was afoot. The Bulgarian plane was not allowed to land as a blatant threat. Kramnik beat Kasparov fair and square. But not Veselin Topalov. In the final game, Raa5 would only occur to an engine, when Kf7 is obviously better from a human perspective. Thank God that we finally have a non-Russian champion!

FIDE have already investigated toiletgate and judged Kramnik as innocent. The judges' decision is final.

I'm surprised the Taiwanese support a neo-Communist state!

Actually an engine would tell ya that there is no real difference between 40.Raa5, 40.h4, 40.Be2 and 40.Kf2- all are within a 0.2 margin, which means next to nothing in a virtually winning position.

40.Raa5 is the most natural move to make at move forty, since it frees the Rb5 from the task of defending the c5 pawn, and the move would occur to any sane&strong player.

The loss in that game was purely Topalov's fault- e.g. he could take an easy draw after 26...Nxb3 27.axb3 Rhd8, when the a6 pawn is not lost- b3 falls as well after a couple of easy moves. Instead of that, he dropped the pawn, and got into a bad position.

This is a very old thread. Topalov had no grounds whatsoever for his accusations. He made them in an attempt to derail Kramnik who was destroying him in the match. The arbiters made several mistakes and forfeited Kramnik in one game. Kramnik came back and drew the match anyway, and beat him in the tie-breaks.

Topalov was treated as a pariah by his peers after Toiletgate. In the Anand-Topalov world championship match, almost every top player helped Anand to prepare.

Imagine going to work knowing that all of your peers are disgusted by you.

SneakySwashbuckler25

To the Greek IM- you have made no mention of the computer cables found in the shower cabines- what else would he use them for- electrocuting political dissidents? Topalov was already lost by Raa5, (sorry,I meant Kf2, not f7,) but it is interesting to note that one Russian GM stated that "Vlad" played like Fritz.
