Laggers...

...*SIGH*... Yet again I get matched with a lagger and have to wait 5 minutes for the site to cancel the game after he disconnected... Seriously, if your internet can't handle a simple javascript based site, don't waste other people's time!

How about you don't play online so you don't risk running into ppl with laggy internet?

...or how about if you don't have access to reliable internet you shouldn't be allowed to play? Hmmm? A dial-up internet that drops you every few minutes shouldn't be allowed on a site that deals in TIME. Twiddling your thumbs for 5 minutes because your opponent has a very poor ISP is ridiculous. I'd rather be playing someone who is actually going to be PRESENT, not reconnecting every few minutes, or disappearing with no explanation. In those 5 minutes I could be in another game with someone who isn't lagging so bad that they get dropped from the game. But appararently my OP went over your head Jarilkonen... SMH...

So, next time you see someone with a poor connection offer to pay a very good ISP for him if it means that much for you... You don't even know if there was a technical error, you don't know anything about the reasons, yet the world has to confirm to you. Let me guess, mamma pays your internet?

Btw, since september you played a total of 9 games on this site... So 'yet again' seems a bit strange to me.

I think you both missed the original point: When a person times out due to lag, it makes the other person sit and wait... you can't cancel the inactive game without forfeiting, so you just sit and twiddle your thumbs. Personally I'd rather be ACTIVELY playing, not waiting for someone to disconnect/reconnect. And yes I DO know about the reasons. On this last game, and 2 others in the past, the opponent was registering as red (very high lag) on the connection bar. As for your questioning of my stating "yet again" Wilbert, I say that because THREE of those nine games were cancelled because the opponent's connection dropped them. There is, however, another bias that goes into saying "yet again"... for years I've dealt with laggers in online first person shooter games (an arena where fast ping time is even more critical). Many game developers began solving the problem with programs such as "Punkbuster", which mainly dealt with cheating (detecting trainer software), but another purpose of the program was to monitor ping rates. If your ping rate went higher than a pre-set number for more than 30 seconds, say a ping of more than 500ms, you were booted from the game. And no, "mamma doesn't pay for my internet"... that was just stupid... My entire point is that it isn't right to make someone wait around because someone else's internet is crap. It has nothing to do with wanting the world to conform to me. It's simply an annoyance and the "5 minute" rule, IMO, needs to be changed at the very least, but even better would be if your ping rate is too high, the site just doesn't let you join a game in the first place.
