In the first puzzle it's just making sure you catch the threat to the bishop and the second, the move attacks black's bishop if the white bishop is taken.

Thanks, I figured out the first one when I looked more closely at the opponent's move and why they moved the rook to that spot, but the second still makes no sense. Whenever I try to insert the puzzle as a puzzle, it always has you play the opponent's moves.

To enter the puzzle, you need to start the position just before the solver's first move.
