we have a saying in Spain which I don't quite know how to translate but literally is "the first shot on the forehead". I agree with Donald's words of encouragement. Enjoy! Smile

Xavi_P, please could you let us see it written in your Spanish language?

Thanks

Here's a thought about space in chess. The way to win a chess game is to attack the opposing king with more force than he defends himself with. Space is one way in which we can upset the balance of force in our favor. If we control more space, than the transition of our pieces from one part of the board to another is easier. If we are able to limit the space of our opponent, then they are vulnerable because the force that their pieces are able to exert on the position will be reduced and perhaps fatally so. Every single idea in chess must be linked to the key idea, which is the method of winning a chess game.

Hi folks, 20 posts on this thread.... good.

My first post, here. 100,000+ posts over a lifetime so we don't get into a newbie battle. Smile OK?

".....Elplates: I got the following from 'Chess for Dummies' and would like to share with the other members, hope it helps...."

"... NM tonydal: Well, I don't mean to be rude, but I can't help but wondering, after reading your first sentence...why do you then go on to give advice?..."

NM: Being an experienced poster/better player than Elplates who is just starting out, why did you choose to ridicule his email? Before you make any excuses, almost everyone else here agreed.

Why?  "...Well, I don't mean to be rude.."  I would advance that you meant to be rude/put him down/ and did the usual forum nonsense that I see as I just arrrived: I've been around, he's new/I'm better/ and most important:  YOU can hide on the net. Would you behave this way in front of a live oppenent, your Mom, your boss, etc... I doubt it.

Grow up the kid was trying to learn......  Yes , I will now bunker down as the attacks begin as I have NO rating at this site.

Maybe this will soften the blow: World Chess Championship
1972 Fischer - Spassky Title Match: watched them most live on public TV via telephone link (hi-tech then! from Iceland) Been around just a wee bit.

It's funny how these threads "evolve". I motion that we award nyandw the official Chess.com "Too much Too soon" trophy. Does anyone second the motion?!!  Foot in mouth
