leagues might actually be useful

not sure abt what the prizes are but it'd def be a nice flex.... at the same time, its really about how much you play, not about how good you are

So two people can literally just play 5 second bullet against each other and both keep advancing.

well only open seeks count.... challenges dont count for leagues

Rematches?

Theoretically yes, but shorter time controls are worth less points. I think Bullet is 3 points for a win (or maybe 1 point; I don't remember exactly) and a Rapid win is worth 15. Perhaps chess.com will tweak points for bullet shorter than 1 min. etc. if that is abused, but I like the concept of Leagues overall happy.png

It rewards playing activity more than chess rating happy.png

They're essentially worth equal amounts per time of play if you compare 1, 3, and 5 minute games.

Yeah, but they don't demote you, so it's kind of fun. The first few leagues should be really easy to advance.

Minimum time control is 1|0

oh i see. doesn't a league last a week? does that mean you have one week to get to legend league and then it gets reset?

To add to what others said about this, you get bonus points for playing in arenas.

So it's basically who is the most active in arenas. If you play a few hours a day, 5 days a week, I bet you'd get to crystal pretty easily.

The last 3 promotions would be tough. Some people already play 10 hours a day. If someone like that is in your group then better luck next week tongue.png

I assume promotions occur at the end of each week, so a minimum of 7 weeks to get to legend.

edit:

Yeah, from MS's link

Based on how much chess you play during the week, you may be able to advance to the next level.

You would need to play really consistently. I never made it past Silver in beta; most of the divisions had a few players that got a lot of trophies.

oh wait yeah i think i got it wrong... so basically at the end of the week, whatever your place is, you can get promoted (or stay in the same league).. that means if u want legend league u gotta actually grind for 7 weeks

Max one league promotion per week. Each week you have the potential to move up a tier, though it's possible some higher tiers may not fill up quickly, which can extend how long it takes.

Ah ok.  Maybe silver (not crystal) is the cutoff for obsessive stuff.

When I was looking into past winners of 24 hour tournaments, I realized how crazy some people get. When I played, I took regular breaks. Would walk my dog for 10 minutes, eat a meal, stuff like that. Some people didn't appear to take any breaks.

Honestly?

Should probably be a packet with info on internet addiction, and some free counseling tongue.png

Martin_Stahl

Don't have any idea. Just know what the prizes are for getting top 200 for Champions.

I'm guessing it's going to take a while before a significant number of people make it the Legends league and they release any details.

I love the concept but seems like those who play tons of games will be advancing the most?

Reminds me of ranking up my clash of clans town hall… 😂

Chesscom is starting to employ more and more of the kinds strategies of games like Fortnite. They are focusing on engagement, and an engaged player base is more likely to make additional purchases. I wonder how long it will be before they introduce a season pass, and create bounties with goals like "win 10 blitz matches", which in turn would earn you some kind of made up currency that you could use to buy certain cosmetic items like fancy chess sets (with, for instance, a Marvel Universe or Hello Kitty theme) or fancy animated flair or the like. Of course if you buy the season pass, such bonuses can be achieved more quickly.

It's coming.

I mean, I don't really mind it... besides, I'm probably not even gonna try to get to Legend or Champion. For those, you need to be playing all day, every single day and I just don't think it's worth it.
