Learning from Amateurs?

have a question about  books on amatuer games:

For someone this low, (1200-1300), is it better to study professional games than amateur games?

I am concerned about picking up bad habits, as I work through it.

Is this wrongful thinking on my part?

OR:

Should I seek to learn from the amateur games as well as the professional, given how low I am in chess understanding?

I can see the advantage to those who are higher in understanding...over 1500, but someone so low:  will I pick up amateur ideas and errors by going over these games?

thanks...
