learning plateau question

I seem to be stuck at the 850-950 blitz zone.  So much so and for so long that there must be some brick wall Im hitting due to knowledge.  As a 40 year instructor in air traffic control, university level computer programming instruction, and flight instruction I am quite expert on the 'learning process'.  My predicament tells me that I have reached my level of incompetence or knowledge.  That means that if I can identify it I can correct it and improve.

The question is...what is it.

Addressing myself to the really good players now...what is your experience on this subject.  When you see someone that has stalled at a particular level such as 900 at blitz, is there a typical issue that must be conquered to make a breakthrough?  Is it tactics, blunder prevention, opening theory, positional play...or something else?

Thanks,

Dave,

Have you thought about hiring a teacher?  I recently started with a coach and he is identifying very specific things I do wrong, bad habits, and providing focused instruction.  My game play and thinking process has already started to change.

Given that you are an ATC instructor, I am sure you can see the value in a professional trainer. . .give it a try for a few months.
