How do I learn all of this?

http://www.caissa.com/chess-openings/sicilian-defense.php

Diakonia

At your level stick to Opening Principles.  Youre dropping pieces, missing simple tactics, and losing to players rated in the 500's.  Youre not even close to being ready for the Sicilian.

Why do I prefer to play white OTB?

Probably for the same reason most people like to play white, you get the first move.

ji25chess

Ah. I see. Probably best to practise with both pieces as much as possible.

Indeed!

Can I use the stonewall attack against white with the black pieces?

I looked over some of your games, and as i p[osted before.  Stick with Opening Principles - Control the center, develop towards the center, castle, connect your rooks.

Youre not at the stage of your chess development where you need to be concered about trying to learn the Sicillian (Theory Intensive), or the Stonewall.  Keep It Simple.

Should I try and win as many games as possible in the simplest manner first?

How good can I be in a years time if I don't mess it up?

Why do I find playing OTB harder than online?

Is drawing a game always better than losing?

Will I improve with time?

ji25chess

How can I improve?

ji25chess

What does hanging pieces mean?

ji25chess

There's always going to be someone better than someone hmmm

lol

thegreat_patzer

wow.

ok my one and only attempt to answer your questions

  • Win with Simple moves?  Yes. simple moves that win means less can go wrong
  • how good in a 1 year?  age, effort, skill and study all are part of this.  I've heard credible reports of 500-700 ELO a years.  IOW,  1200 to 1900 Max.  don't expect to keep improving at the pace though..  chess gets harder when you get better.
  • OTB>online?  yes, generally. normally OTB play is much longer, and that makes it more serious.   just generally OTB tournament play is more serious and fair than Online play.  so study up and be prepared for harder games OTB....
  • Drawing a game> losing.  Yes Absolutely.  part of the game is trying very, very hard not to lose.
  • Improve in time?  what is your age?  how much chess do you play? etc.  if your a kid- you should improve a little even if you don't play hardly at all. (just better to reason and work things out).  but improvement might be very little.  "play" and don't give up , and improvment is much more likely and significant.
  • how to improve?  lots of ways.  but MORE than just playing.  look for mistakes in your game and study tactics.  learn endgames and go over master games.
  • "hanging " peices?  peices that are not protected and that the opponent can freely take on their move.  try to keep you pawns and peices safe.  Try to anticipate tactics too, but "hanging peices" usually mean very simple captures.  some people get SO anxious calculating complicated exchanges that they miss very Simple captures that make all the difference.
  • "there's always somebody better"... not so much with poor Magnus Carlsen.  unless he's in very bad shape, he should beat the heck of sergy Karjakin in a few months.

good luck.

Damn patzer.  With a meal like that you provide an attention maggot a week of spamming.

thegreat_patzer

don't worry COP.

it won't satisfy him.  besides what would this place be like without "attention maggots"?

oc, it would be very boring.
