Level of rudeness at different rating levels

My hypothesis is that rudeness in Chess is correlated with knowing some tactics but having little concept of how much they have left to learn. I feel that at around 1200 it started to change for me where players are starting treat their matches as learning experiences rather than fights.

I know what you mean. It's kind of remarkable that I can play people at a level (1400-1500) where we are both objectively pretty mediocre, yet some of them have such huge egos regardless and seem to want a form of respect which is actually just deference.

Interesting what you say about learning- I usually check out the profiles of people who behave badly and they're universally either trending firmly downwards or their rating jumps up and down wildly. No improvers.

That is very interesting. For the trending down people i guess maybe it kinda makes sense, they may be frustrated and take it out on others maybe.

I suppose the same could go for the ones who fluctuate, I'm about to go stark crazy if I have to do one more full bounce between 1400 and 1500.

i had some chinese girl do it to me a while go she was calling me every offense to my intelligence you could think of because i was taking a long time but shes probably an entitled b and her parents spoon feed her, but usually no one says anything at lower level it happens, i think it probably does change as you go up but we may be in the range where its trying to comeback

As a Chinese, we do not associate with her.

Some interesting whining I have got from my opponent here over the years:

  • Complaining when I took more than about 30 seconds to make a move. The game was a 15/10 time control game.
  • I made a mistake and my opponent got a mate-in-1 position, so I politely allowed him to make the move and get the checkmate. Instead of making the move he argued for several minutes that I had to resign.
  • An opponent fell for a classic opening trap (he clearly didn't know), and I proceeded to absolutely decimate him in a few moves. He accused me of cheating and said he would be reporting me.
  • Several times someone in an extremely lost position (eg. me having a queen and several minor pieces, he having only king and a couple of pawns) starts spamming the draw offer. When I ask if he really thinks that the position is so equal that neither of us has any realistic chance of winning, one of them responded by arguing that it's an unrated game, it doesn't matter. (Sheesh, if it's an unrated game and it doesn't matter, why not just resign?)
  • A couple of times I have been in a severely losing position and my opponent started mocking me in the chat. (The best case was one in which I continued playing and actually managed to turn the game around and win. That one was magnificent. Believe it or not, that opponent then started complaining that he should have won.)

All that reminds me of a girl.

Everybody just grinding the game non-stop. It's like so serious and there is no toxicity...

I bet all the kids are below the 1000 rating most of the time, which is why they are trashtalking.

Proof that you are Chinese.

You're being rude right now, just like people who send rude messages during the game. Nobody needs to prove anything to you, and it's VERY bad manners to demand it.

I'm just messing around. I get your point. I already knew he/she was Chinese because the quoting would state Chinese characters out.

It's rude to mess around but I get your point. No harm intended.

There's usually no harm in messing around, true. Ice cream is my friend and I didn't want them to feel attacked. People can be super racist on here sometimes
