page 248 of Modern Chess Openings, I thing the first g5 is a typo and nothing should be there, just go to blacks move and use the 10th move from line 1

I see what you mean.  Column 2 (not line 2) on p. 248 (not 249).  Yes, I believe you have it right.  Move 10 shouldn't be g5 (illegal), it should be blank, meaning that columns 2-3 are all about 10 0-0-0.  Which makes sense, since that's virtually the only move ever played there, and the only move that makes sense.

thanks! I spent 1 hour looking this making sure I didnt mess up, since its 15th edition I was surprised to find this error on the 1st page of the Sicilian. yeah I thought maybe Bg5 at first but then you cant take the pawn to g5 on the 12 move. Thanks so much guys!!!!

It's not the only error of this sort in MCO 15 either!

No, it's a line in the English attack.  Not sure why the third poster was suggesting that one game out of the hundreds of thousands of Najdorf games out there...

I took a main line with moves 10-12 g2-g4-g5.
The error probably stems from the conversion of the descriptive notation to the algebraic notation. P-N4 for black can mean b5 as well as g5.

I looked at it further and g5 from column 2 should be in Column 4. Column 4 is missing the 10th move for white and it works with g5 since g4 is played on the 9 move. Further confirmed because there are no connecting dots from column 1 and 2 on the 10th move for white. g5 on column 2  is wrong. Looks like they messed up the formatting when editing/tabulating that table

Ah, yes -- that explains it.
