live vs online performance

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced a really good streak in Standard chess but at the same time a really bad one in Blitz games and fast games.

This has happened to me recently and I don't know what to attribute it to. It is such a contrast. Its true that I've lost many of my live games because I used the chess.com android app which works really badly and kept crushing. However, I have also lost many games because of foolish mistakes.

I appreciate any comments.

Thanks!

Google up Dan Heisman's Novice Nook on the Two Move triggers.   You might find that you are violating one or both of them and this possibly explains your situation.

For reference (please read his article!) , they are:

Trigger 1: You have proven which move is best, so no further time is necessary.

Trigger 2: You have not proven which move is best, but time  constraints (good time management) make it efficient for you to play the best move you have found so far.

While it is easy for people to look at this and say "duh, that's common sense", a vast majority of players who keep saying "I'm good at slow/blitz but not at the other time control" are a little unclear about managing their time in a disciplined manner.
