Mmmmm.... not @georgski. I don't think this would be regarded as "noteworthy" by Wikipedia standards.

It's interesting that Bogoljubov was not one of the original GMs the previous year, even though he had contested two WC matches with Alekhine and was quite successful in international tournaments prior to WWII. According to his profile on chessgames.com, FIDE denied him the title on the grounds that he had been a supporter of Hitler. But then why did they grant him the title one year later? We can only conjecture, but since he died in 1952 it's possible that he was already seriously ill when FIDE made its 1951 selections and they decided to give him the honor before he died.

By the way, he originated one of the greatest chess quotes: "To have a knight planted in your game at K6 is worse than a rusty nail in your knee."

According to ruchess.ru:

"After the end of World War II, he was boycotted by Soviet chess players. Due to pressure from the Soviet chess federation, he was not admitted to the match-tournament for the world championship and several more international tournaments; furthermore, he was taken out of the list of exceptional chess players that were awarded the title of grandmaster in 1950. Justice was restored one year later after the outrage from the Western world. In later years, he trained the West German national team. "
