Modern Wing Sicilian

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with an Anti‑Sicilian setup as White that I’ve started calling the Modern Wing Sicilian, and I’d really appreciate some feedback from stronger players, analysts, and engine users.

Main idea:
White sacrifices queenside pawns to gain rapid development, double‑bishop activity, and long‑diagonal pressure rather than going for immediate tactics.

Main line I’m testing:
1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 d6
3. b4 cxb4
4. c3 bxc3
5. Nxc3 g6
6. Bb2 Bg7
7. Bc4 Nf6

8. O-O O-O

Concepts of the system:
Bishops on c4 and b2 targeting the long diagonals
Fast, natural development
Central pressure with ideas like d4, Re1, and sometimes e5
Not a trap line — compensation is positional and initiative‑based
Engines seem to evaluate the position around −, which I’m comfortable with for a gambit, but I’m mostly interested in practical playability and plans.

What I’d like advice on:
Best middlegame plans for White
Black’s most critical setups against this structure
Possible move‑order improvements
Whether there’s existing theory I’ve overlooked
I’m not claiming this refutes the Sicilian — just exploring whether it’s a sound and interesting Anti‑Sicilian weapon.

Thanks in advance for any analysis or suggestions!

I’ve also been analysing Black’s engine‑preferred defence with early …Nf6 and …Nxe4, leading to the following position

Update: 2…Nc6 Defence (Modern Wing Sicilian)
I’ve also been looking at the 2…Nc6 defence, which leads to a different structure compared to the …d6 lines, so I’m treating this as a sub‑line rather than a separate system.

A main line I’ve been analysing is:

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. b4 Nxb4
4. c3 Nc6
5. d4 cxd4
6. cxd4 e6
7. Nc3 Bb4
8. Bd2 Nf6
9. Bd3 O-O
10. O-O d6
11. Rb1

The resulting position is more central and structural than the long‑diagonal setups in the …d6 main line. Engines currently evaluate this around −, which suggests the position is quite playable for White with clear plans rather than relying on tactics.

General ideas for White here:

Solid central presence and natural development
Queenside pressure with Rb1
Flexible middlegame plans rather than forcing an attack
I see this as a practical and fully respectable branch of what I’m calling the Modern Wing Sicilian, adapting to Black’s choice of setup rather than trying to force the same structure.

Happy to hear thoughts on this line or suggestions for improvements.
