It's a bit tough. Something like 15 minute is maybe a good compromise online. The game is still relatively slow, but you're not staring at a computer for hours

Thank you! i really want to get better at slower time controls. i am very dissapointed in my result at the tourney. i just was tired but still... so i am going to try to play slower so i can get used to it.

Put up blog posts with analysis of your games and I will give comments.

I don’t play long time online because it is not trustworthy.

I rarely play on a physical board except with my family from time to time, so long online games are pretty exciting from my point of view.

From time to time, I play badly because I am not focused enough, but in most cases I don't really lose my concentration. happy.png

But, I don't play a ton of those games. I play 1 game every 2 days on average, as those games are pretty draining and time consuming. So perhaps if you don't play too many, you might find your focus if you play those long games only occasionally. happy.png

I tried playing somewhat shorter games like 15|10, and even though you have some time for thinking, it is not really the same experience for me. I prefer longer games, and it is not even close for me.

i know what i did wrong sadly. i did not play like i normally would. the first game in the tourney i played very well but after i just made bad mistakes. i missed a mate in 3 that i would usually see in seconds. i played the one losing move in a drawn endgame and i blundered mate in 2 and also hung a knight. i was just making stupid moves i would never make. i think it was because i was tired but i am not sure

I think the best place to play long time controls online is the FICS teamleague. The time control is 45+45 and you normally play one game per week for the season.. http://www.teamleague.org/ There are also some long time control tournaments on the internet chess club but being a member at the internet chess club isnt free, Its free to play in the FICS teamleague.

Chess isn't for everyone. If you get bored playing games like 45+45 or 60+30, this just really isn't for you. Maybe stick to the stuff the kids play like blitz or bullet.

i love chess OTB. it was not that i was bored at my tourney. its that i was exhausted. i do get bored online cause there is nothing to focus on when your opponent takes long thinks.

most slow games I play have atleast 1 or 3 blunders against people of my level (win or lose)... But it's a super satisfying feeling to score 0 blunders 0 mistakes 2 inaccuracies which is something I got one time in a 20+10 game... It was against someone lower rated, and he made a bad sac.. but yes these "perfect stats" is very satisfying because I actually thought this game was messy and then I look at the analysis and see it turns out every time I took a long think I played one of the top moves...

I know I'm a noob but still I think maybe this advice can help you... So try playing against lower rated players but rather than playing "the most fun" or "stuff you know will work against them"  try to actually play objectively with no mistakes... try to get in to this perfectionist trip... Then the time will pass quicker and with more interest and focus... Imagine they are a GM that punish every innacuracy... It's a very different approach than blitz/bullet of course...
