Some murky forests in the Semi-Slav are just as notorious ... the Botvinnik lines are insane in terms of how much you need to "know" to play it competitively at the higher levels.
Longest analyzed variation of any chess opening
I presume the variation of the Ruy that is 40 moves long starts at move 1.e4?
There is a variation in the Ponziani Opening which many masters have claimed to be a draw or very drawish which was analyzed to more than 40 moves. [showing White has very decent chances to win]
It can lead to many opening theory systems and for me Sicilian is the one. I'm not sure with it, but I believe it was. :D
The Marshall Gambit in the Ruy Lopez has a very deeply analysed main line. So does the Poisoned Pawn variation of the Najdorf Sicilian.
Perhaps the question should be: What is the longest published variation of a Chess Opening? What is its name, and what is its score?
Today I saw in the book(Pandolfini:Kasparov-Deep Blue),that some variations of Ruy Lopez going more than 40 moves deep.Is it possible? And what is the longest analyzed variation you know?
