I am interested in receiving coaching. I played in a chess club in high school until I went off to college in 1980. Haven't played since then until a month ago.
How on Earth can someone 'imagine' their grade? Chess is not creative writing.
Come on guys, get real.
Why did you not say what your chess.com rating is, then one is dealing with a known quantity? I like the picture of the dog by the way........What do you imagine his rating is?
Hello, because there have been many responses, I can`t take on everyone as a student. I might 'lock' this topic, if I can work out how to...so people don`t continue to leave comments, but many of the people who have responded aren`t that serious about me giving them lessons, but some are. Anyway...
1. @MikeNYCBK (550) is serious about improving, so I am teaching him at the moment.
In case he drops out, the following people will be next in line...
- @Sarahmarie2323
- @brainnewyork
Please note that if your rating is much above 1000, then you are no longer a beginner.
I am also offering my services as a coach. My lessons consist of game reviews, openings (for beginners), tactics, and middle game strategies, as well as basic endgame ideas. The price is $5 an hour, However, the first lesson is free so if you decide that I'm not the best coach for you, you're not out any money, Lessons are performed over Skype.
you shouldnt be teaching yet, you sre only 1400.
i am 1700, and i am no-where near qualified to teach someone
You are wrong, I am a 1900 player and I have met guys with only 1500 that are amazing teachers, how they teach its incredible, and I have met 2400 players that are bad teachers, really strong players but bad teachers, I cant say that he is a good teacher because I dont know him but actually you dont need to have 2000 to be a good teacher

When I was a beginner, I learnt from someone at my local chess club who was my ability now, and they taught me well. Is it not true that you can learn from someone of your own ability, when they beat you, and you erred in the game somewhere. If this is the case then someone who is more experienced than you certainly has knowledge enough to teach you. If a beginner has a rapid rating of 600 and my rating is 1400, the difference is 800. If an IM went up to a grandmaster, whose rating was not 100 points above theirs, does that not make them qualified to teach the IM. By the way, I have recently played a number of very accurate games, see my Miniature London blog post, which is from a league game I won in 19 moves.
What do you mean? You're still a beginner...
