Looking for advice on chess aesthetics.

I bought a new chess set, first set I've ever bought. I really enjoy owning this set, but the three ivory color pieces that were on display are lighter than rest. My guess is light exposure, and it didn't have a noticeable effect on the three red color pieces that were also displayed. The set is high gloss, enamel over wood. I think if expose the rest of the ivory colored pieces to light, it should even the colors. Just asking for advice, so I don't cause more harm than good.

Maybe buffing the pieces will help?

Getting over it may also help, chess pieces will deteriorate. Putting the other remaining ones on the light would be stupid cause you don't know if it was because of that and the conditions and time it took. The only solution would be to repaint them probably

It's nowhere near as easy as it sounds if you suffer from OCD about things like these, unfortunately.

Well I just joined here today and very unsure of my skill. So I'm hesitating about starting a game. Plus it's hard to get a feel for the game over remote conditions. I'm sure to give it a try soon.

Invite me to a game, I'm sure I'm sticking my neck out.

But, it's still just game... No need to have a property of a chess set of your own... Besides, every single thing in the internet is remote controled.

@Scottcc: is the set in question the one that's pictured in your avatar?

It seems like the colors of the red chessmen and the dark squares are extremely similar (in fact, almost identical). I know that (unfortunately) probably the majority of sets (especially the cheaper ones) are like this, but it's a thing you want to avoid, as it does hurt clarity quite a bit if the pieces tend to blend in with the squares.

(The worst of the worst in that regard seem to be those cheap chinese magnetic sets which have both the chessmen as well as the squares literally black and white - not only does the extremely stark contrast hurt the eyes, but also the chessmen blend in with the chessboard, what were they thinking?)

yes it's my set, advice taken. Actually the board and pieces were separate. I've played at least ten games with different people with no complaints so far. The board is not as red as the chessmen in person.

BTW, there is a section of the Forums specifically for discussions about chess equipment. You'll probably get more help, and less ridicule from trolls who don't play OTB.

Thanks for that, maybe one of the moderators could move it, if not I'll try over there.

Also so this is a middle priced set. I got it 60% off MSRP, I suppose from sitting so long. As far as trolling, I am used to a lot worst.
