Looking for help preparing for OTB tonight

Anyone want to help me prepare for tonight's match? Looking for some rapid games. 45|45 preferably.. or 30 min / 15|10  too.

I just got my USCF membership so I am still unrated. I am 2:1 in Dec tournament with one round to go against a 1870+ rated player. I am predicting he will play the e4 so I want to practice my Sicilian defense as much as possible today.

I am looking to play against my least familiar variations of the Sicilian..

1. e4 c5 Nf3 d6 c3

2.  Grand prix attack (e4 c5 Nc3 Nc6 and f4

3. and the closed Sicilian.

4. other variations welcome and a few d4/Nf3 games wouldn't hurt either but I want to mainly focus on the e4 c5 Sicilian.

Higher rated players welcome. Constructive criticism during/after the match is welcomed too.

Thank you,

Hahahahaha sorry I cannot play bullet games anymore. My moves become to reactionary instead of thoughtout. Thank you though bro

Thank you,

I recently played in a tournament where i played a 1800 player and he complently suprised me with 3.Bb5+. Of course I did some analysis after, and now know it, but did not know what to do.

Hey @jr87, briefly analyze famous grandmaster games with the opening that you want to play. Also, if possible analyze other games that you or your opponent have played. This link would be helpful: http://chesswinning.com/how-to-analyze-chess-games/

I began playing the c3 (Alapin) Sicilian as White and am 3W 1L plus two current daily games with good positions.  Watch out for that.  Also, if he plays 3 Bb5+, simply play ...Bd7 and after 4 Bxd7 recapture with either the Q or a N and you, as Black, have gained a tempo.

My advice is: Do not play any chess right before an OTB chess match. Go for a walk and relax your mind.

Duly noted my friend. I will be playing at 7 CST. It is 12:30 now. Two hours before the match I have a workout scheduled. This will hopefully get my blood flow going and mind clear of all distractions.

Solving difficult puzzles is better than playing practice games of your chosen openings. Just review the openings using openings manual, cc explorer, or computer chess openings book.

How did your game go?

Avatar of jr87

It was the Sicilian defense. e4 e5, Nf3 d6, d4 cxd4, Nxd4 Nf6, Nc3 a3, Bd3 Nc6, Be3 e6, Qd2 Be7, 0-0-0 Nxd4, Bxd4 0-0, f4 h6 (for some silly reason) and that's all I can remember off the top of my head. I will share the full notation later if you want to see the full game. It lasted about 28 moves I believe.  I was playing way too defensive causing myself to fall behind in development. He got developed and I could not stop the pawn storm that followed. It was a great learning experience

Huh?

I believe he is basically saying tactical training at the club level is better than worrying about openings. He is right. Tactics win games. As long as you stick to fundamentals developmental theory you should be find regardless of the opening (at the 1999 and lower levels.)
