Love chess hate chess players

People ruin this game for me. Why does it seem like 80% of all chess players have some big ego associated with them. Does anyone have respect anymore, no wonder people hate chess it's seemingly filled with worthless maggots of humans. I am absolutely ashamed of this community today. Since when did this game become more about winning than having fun

Youre confusing leck of self-esteem with ego.  Its not a matter of having to much ego, as it is about having a lack of self-esteem.  Online annonymity is like alcohol.  It gives people a false sense of security.

Aren't those two pretty tied though. I don't see how you can have one without the other, unless you just think your immortal

I think you're on to something. Probably due to the cultural connotations of chess, a large section of the chess community seems to believe that it has reason to think of itself as smarter than the average person, and that attitude is definitely reflected here on chess.com. It's something that I've noticed and commented on in the past, to mixed reactions.

I know. Best thing to do is just block them and get on with life.

I word it the way i do, because i do believe there is a difference.  Michael Jordan can have an ego regarding his basketball skills, because he can back it up.  There is no lack of "self-esteem" in him.

Now take the people here you are referring to.  That is a lack of self-esteem.

a lot of it sounds contradictory and over the top.  what was the exact trigger point?

What are you twelve years old or something? Have you never lost a chess game that was still fun to play and appreciate. You know what makes a great game for me? Win or lose from either side if my opponent offers respect, or maybe even advice if I lost that type of thing gives me a lot of joy for the game. People who play just to win are the worst. This game isn't about just winning and losing you know how simple minded and "monkey brained" it is to just view it like that. It's primitive, and disrespectful to treat another person as just an obstacle.

I dare say maggots is an excellent example of people you can find on here. They don't care who you are, what you are, why your here, or what your trying to be. They only care about feeding themselves and destroying you as fast as possible to make themselves feel better. They have no respect for who they try and humiliate, the only care about their own pleasure. These types of people always seem to flock to bullet, which is great for me let bullet have them so they can destroy themselves. But they still seep into the rest of the chess site. The don't respect anything but their own ego. Those types of people are simply trash. And for whatever reason it is chess seems to draw a huge amount of them out on the Internet

Reminds me of yesterday's Candidate matches, and some of the stupid things I saw on the various chat streams... but Kramnik summed it up well, as reported in the wrap-up article on this site.   "Kramnik said he much preferred to reach 3.5/7 this way than in London five years ago, when he started with seven draws: "Nice wins, painful losses, it's life. Emotions!" "  Such a wonderful appreciation of the game!

You can find some of the nicest ppl here, but you will also find many toxic sad ones, using chess primary to boost their heart ego and prove their worthiness. Avoid the toxic ones and you will have a good time.

Accept the reality for what it is,severe all human connections in chess.com except from people in your friend list.Keep your messages open for communication, that's what works for me,but occasionally i open my note chat. Its a mix of good and bad people on the internet, what do you expect?Even if you meet a few friendlies here, whats the point?they are mostly on the other side of the planet. So lamenting about it only doubles your pain.Good day.

Just because you accept a half witted, crude hateful humanity doesn't mean I have to. Chess should be better than that. It maybe makes sense at the higher levels becuase thier is money involved but at the lower levels people should learn respect and from what i see its just filled with 90% trashy people
