Low-FODMAP diet and playing better chess?

For the people who has problems with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and used a low–FODMAP diet as treatment. Did you feel that you began to play better chess after the diet? I mean, I really think that some food makes me play horrible chess, and I hope that with the diet I will not only treat the IBS but also improve my ability to play less blunders and mistakes.

For all the people who never heard about FODMAP: it is probably worth to check this out if you have regularly stomach pain, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation.

I had IBS before going on a keto diet - Keto fixed the problem. I've never specifically tried low-FODMAP foods.

I think I concentrate better on keto, but I suspect that's because the brain likes ketones better than glucose. I have no idea whether low FODMAPs make any difference in reducing chess blunders. But I have to say, if I was trying to get rid of my IBS, I'd worry much more about that issue than whether it helps my chess. happy.png

A good exercise routine will cure these problems. Sitting in front of your computer for long periods of time, is just asking for trouble.

I have to respectfully disagree. While exercise is admirable and helpful to overall health, it does nothing to combat IBS/FODMAP issues. In these cases, it's ALL about what you're eating (or not eating).

Thanks people for the feedback. I will check the keto diet, sounds interesting. Of course I am primarily concerned on getting rid of the IBS. I just thought that it would be interesting to check the influence of food on chess performance.

Like the OP said, IBS could be diarrhea, constipation, bloating, etc. What's weird about being on keto is that your bowel movements tend to be less frequent and smaller in size. Go figure...
