Lowest Fide rating?

Looked at their site ratings page but after about 4 min I started getting a sharp throbbing above my left temple.  Seems like you'd have to score 2000 or above before you would even get a rating.  Maybe I'm not reading it right.

Oh, ok cool, I've got a shot!  It'll be awhile but I've got a shot.  Don't know why I should covet a Fide rating more than a USCF rating (especially as an American), maybe it just seems more exotic.

Let's say a person was 1600+ strength would there be any way to get a Fide rating with out actually traveling to Europe to play in tournaments?

I am not very conversant with FIDE requirements, so what I tell you may need tidying up by someone that is, but here it is to the best of my knowledge.

You need to compete in FIDE rated events, there are some criteria to be met by the organisers. Here in Aus, the only FIDE rated events are usually 90 minutes plus 30 secs per move with only 2 games per day (this is the maximum games allowed per day by FIDE) I am not sure what time controls are allowable.

There is also some requirement per number of games played must be against FIDE rated opponents, there must be two blocks (nr of games) within some length of time, I think it may be two years.

As you are undoubtedly becoming aware, getting a FIDE rating may not be such an easy task. As to the validity of having it, that would be up to each individual to assess.

Sounds like maybe Mexico might be the best bet.

There are FIDE rated tournaments in the US. Usually the top sections at most major/large tournamants are FIDE rated.
