Mac chess options for Mountain Lion
The newest version of ChessX includes a version of Stockfish. Or you can download Stockfish and Critter seperately.

Hello all. I'm a new mac user and am looking for chess software and engines. I think eventually I will get shredder when I can afford to, but in the meantime what good free chess programs are available? Some of the ones mentioned in earlier threads are no longer supported on Lion, or Mountain Lion. Chess X seems like a good database program, but I cant find an engine for it. This next question may seem silly to someone who programs, but for the programming inept: Are the engines Platform specific, or is the program itself that is Platform specific? Basically I have fritz 9 somewhere. Can I use that engine in Chess X. Thanks for all the help!
